AIDS affects millions of people worldwide
It is a threat to public health and the major cause of death in many developing countries. The majority of people living with HIV and AIDS in developing countries has no access to treatment, the result being illness and an early death. Worldwide less than 20% of the people in urgent need of antiretroviral treatment actually receive medication.

HIV affects all levels of society
The family, the community and the nation as a whole. Predominantly young and middle-aged adults are infected. As these population groups are the mainstay of the economy the epidemic destroys the very fabric of societies. Particularly in places where HIV prevalence is high, the economy is negatively affected and the provision of social services becomes more difficult. And in a vicious twist, the increased poverty makes populations more vulnerable to the spread of HIV.

AIDS and poverty
At the wider community or national level the impact is felt as the gradual accumulation of losses, and diminution of resources and options for change. The seriousness of the impact depends not only on the numbers infected and directly affected by HIV, but also on the resources available to cope with the situation, whether at family, community or national level.

This makes the fight against AIDS closely related with the fight against poverty. Based on this idea the Aids Fonds and four Dutch development organisations, Hivos, ICCO, Cordaid and Oxfam Novib, decided to join forces and found STOP AIDS NOW! in 2000. As the HIV and AIDS problem is so far-reaching and has such fundamental consequences no party or organisation is likely to find the ultimate solution alone. Therefore STOP AIDS NOW! works as much as possible with other players in the field. Such as governments, other NGOs, networks and various companies.

STOP AIDS NOW! is an independent organisation with an independent management. Aids Fonds, Hivos, ICCO, Cordaid and Oxfam Novib are all collaborating within STOP AIDS NOW!

I am conducting a situational analysis of male involvement in HIV prevention in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Mapping of NGOs engaging men in HIV prevention programmes is part of the task. I want to know if you are directly or through partnership involved in HIV prevention in the province and if so, who the partners are and their contact details. In one of your videos there is evidence that you have people on the ground in Pietermaritzburg. I will be grateful if you could give me their contact details. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your co-operation K. Owusu-Ampomah

I am a Cameroonian national and recently was very fortunate to participate on your expert tour. Though in the Netherlands for other business I was fortunate to register and participate in the Thursday 11 November – ICCO, Utrecht. I was able to take part in the session on The Greater Involvement of People Living with HIV or GIPA Principle which I found to be very interactive, educative and productive. I would have love to participate in all the other equally important sessions but could not due to other pressing engagements. I was given a USB flash disc with very important materials and tools which will be very useful for my work on my return to Cameroon. I am very impressed with your united and integrated approach to fighting the pandemicon a global level and was very saddened to lean that funding for your activities from the Dutch government faces imminent slash. This is most unfortunate but I believe you will still go a long way in achieving impacts with this contracted funding. I wish you all the best and keep up your excellent work. Dear sir/madam Recently, we have started health education & promotion campaign & an initiative of community based HIV/AIDS prevention program from the sexual health & rights perspective which is aimed at influencing the politically biased national HIV/AIDS policies & combating the epidemic of HIV in LGBT Ethiopian community through interactive peer group education, risk behaviors reduction & awareness raising among those who are the most vulnerable & neglected Ethiopian gays and/or all (Men having sex with men) . The project includes the young male street based sex workers, gay prisoners who are behind the bar because of the charge of" sexual misconduct" & gay university students’ sexual behaviors assessment in campus. But, because of lack of qualified health educators & resource material we are not that much effective in addressing the deep rooted & multifaceted problems which are very hard to solve them with out the assistance & cooperation of other potential & devoted partners in & out of Ethiopia. Regarding national & international NGOs in Ethiopia we have tried a lot but their response was not that much encouraging because of the fear of the antagonistic reaction of the government and/or the internalized homophobia of the Ethiopian staffs working in the decision making positions of the organizations. So,we are obliged to turn our face to other foreign & international humanitarian NGOs to help us mitigate the massive death of the most vulnerable & neglected Ethiopian gays and/or all (Men having sex with men). We kindly request you/ your organization for the following assistances; · Information and opinion formation · Cooperation · Capacity enhancement and financial support from you/ your organization if possible but you can also help us by giving/spreading our organizational profile to other international LGBT organiztions to help us build a healthy & informed community.your assistance will help us forthe effective implementation of our project to come to fruition. Please we kindly request you to consider this project as saving & empowering the most marginalized segment of the society with multiple forms of oppression because there is no any governmental or an NGO project geared to ward working this marginalized & vulnerable social groups. If you are willing to help we can arrange a discussion to tell you more about what we are doing. Warm regards Please contact us using our website.www.esma2007.webs.com

Request for collaboration We are an NGO working mainly in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo called UVIRA RELIEF TEAM, asbl. We focus our actions in the fight against HIV / AIDS by raising awareness and providing basic training for actors of civil society to conduct an overall fight against sexually transmitted diseases. As a result, the majority of people living with HIV and AIDS in our country has no access to treatment, the result is the state's early death. In It must be said that the lack of information is causing the rapid spread of this disease. Every society (family, community and nation as a whole is concerned, young people and adults). The economic fabric of society has broken down because the foundation is particularly affected young people and adults. However, HIV prevalence is very high, the economy is negatively affected and the provision of social services becomes more difficult, increased poverty makes people more vulnerable to the spread of HIV. We are launching a cry so painful that STOP AIDS NOW, we help subsidize some of our programs to enable our organization to achieve its many goals for the benefit of the vulnerable population. We wish you the best wishes for 2010. For UVIRA RELIEF TEAM URT asbl John Kazembe Matango Coordinator
