The global economic crisis is threathning the ARV treatment of 1.8 million people with HIV. This calls for immediate action! Therefore, STOP AIDS NOW! will launch a nation wide TV and advertisement campaign in the Netherlands for HIV/AIDS awareness and fundraising.
We need your help to collect concrete facts and evidence that show that the global economic crisis is already affecting the treatment of people with HIV. With this information we will demonstrate what ‘is at stake’ and what urgent action is needed. Therefore we would greatly appreciate if you could support us by providing the following information before September 8
Data and facts - programme level
STOP AIDS NOW! is looking for data and examples of treatment programmes that have/had/expect to close down or are/were forced to stop enrolling new patients due to funding problems. Examples include clinics that have to close down, or are no longer accepting new patients. In Uganda for example, the government is investigating the alleged death of 17 people due to a lack of ARV medication.
We are interested in all your stories and facts, but most of all in the following questions:
- Have you witnessed or do you extpect a shortage of ARV medications due to a lack of funding? If yes;
- Can indicate how many people are / will be affected by this?
- Can you give concrete examples of the problem that the people involved are faced with?
- Can you indicate the location (region/city/village) where this situation is developing?
- Can you provide us with the name and contact details of the person/organisation that can give more information on this specific situation?
Testimonies - personal level
STOP AIDS NOW! is looking for personal testimonies of people who no longer have access to treatment or fear that their treatment will be disrupted due to funding problems. Disheartening examples include family members sharing medication, teachers that are too sick to work after they lost access to treatment, pregnant women that no longer have access to PMTCT facilities due to a lack of funding.
We are interested in all your stories and facts, but most of all in the following questions:
- Do you experience or expect to run out of ARV medications due to funding problems? If yes;
- Can you describe how this is affecting your life (e.g. your concerns, fears)?
- Can you provide us with your personal information (We respect all issues concerning anonymity and confidentiality. All information will be treated with the upmost respect and nothing will be used or published withour your consent. The final draft of the text will be sent to you for review, so that you can indicate the level of anonymity and confidentiality you wish to maintain):
