World Vision in cooperation with the Dutch CABA working groups invites you to the workshop "Aids orphans: can community-led care show the power of good practice?" at the 12th National STI*HIV*AIDS Conference in the Netherlands.
In Sub-Saharan Africa, a severe side effect of HIV/AIDS is social disruption. Up to 10 million young children have lost one or both parents (‘AIDS orphans') and millions of older people have lost the adult children who would have been their carers.
By mobilising and strengthening Community Care Coalitions (CCC) to implement community-led care, World Vision is responding to this impact of HIV and AIDS. The CCC model has been successful in reaching many vulnerable children. 3,700 CCCs have already been formed, providing care and support to 842,000 orphans and vulnerable children. 60,000 health visitors have been trained in caring skills. This allows 69,000 chronically ill people to be given care in their own homes. World Vision's role has been to mobilise the CCCs and support them with financial resources and various skills, including organisational capacity. In the workshop, Ms Faith Jere from World Vision Zambia, will explain more about these CCCs. Furthermore, the workshop will touch upon the outcomes of the Expert Meeting of the Dutch CABA working group 'Children Affected By AIDS - Beyond the Fragments of Care' of April this year in relation to the CCC model.
