Monitoring & Evaluation Protocol
We are happy to announce the availability of a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) protocol. The protocol provides M&E forms local partners can use for their M&E processes. It also includes a description of a research initiative to be integrated into the M&E of the Gender Development Project, along with the corresponding tools.
As part of the M&E protocol a small research initiative to evaluate the impact of the prevention activities of counterparts, has also been developed. The small research initiative is meant to evaluate the effect of the activities of counterparts. STOP AIDS NOW! seeks to learn if the activities have changed the levels of knowledge of the women and girls on HIV/AIDS, and their gender-related attitudes, beliefs and perceptions.
How does the research tool work?
The research tools include a survey (akin to a KAP survey) that asks a series of questions concerning: Sexual relationship power (including presence of violence); gender roles; attitudes toward condoms, condom negotiation and condom use; and discussion of sexual issues. It has been translated into Dholuo, Kiswahili and Kikuyu for use with the target groups of the participating organizations in Kenya and for now, into Bahasa Indonesia, for use in Java. The survey will be adapted to the local contexts in both countries after pre-testing with the local partners.
Implementation research initiative in Kenya
Ten local partners are participating in the research initiative: C-MEDA; Women in the Fishing Industries Project (WIFIP); Citizens for Constitutional Change (4-Cs); Community Aid International (CAI); KANCO; Young Women’s Campaign against AIDS (YWCAA); Help Self Help Centre (HSHC); Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Eldoret; Kenya Female Advisory Organisation (KEFEADO); and Women’s Shadow Parliament-Kenya (WSP-K). Organizations participating in the research initiative benefited from training August 30-September 1 provided through IMPACT-RDO, the organization coordinating the research in Kenya.
