Influencing Dutch and international politics
STOP AIDS NOW! is constantly trying to generate commitment and support for the response to HIV and AIDS. Its lobbying aim is to influence Dutch and European politics. STOP AIDS NOW! actively targets Dutch policy makers. A specialised lobby group in Brussels - Stop Aids Alliance - targets the EU. Stop Aids Alliance is a joint initiative of STOP AIDS NOW! and the International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Brighton (UK). On certain issues STOP AIDS NOW! strengthens its lobby activities and makes sure they are more visible by connecting lobby and communication through campaigning.
Integrating HIV and AIDS into the broader development agenda
The main objectives of STOP AIDS NOW! lobbying and advocacy are to create more political attention for HIV and AIDS, and better integration of the HIV and AIDS issue into poverty reduction in the global South. We aim to raise awareness of the exceptionality of HIV and AIDS as well as the influence HIV and AIDS have on the development goals. And we try to promote a better understanding of the importance of mainstreaming HIV and AIDS in a broader development agenda. We do this formally, by organising debates and writing petitions, and also informally by advising politicians and other decision makers.
Determining the content of our lobby efforts
The actual content of our lobbying efforts is based on developments within the field and (new) insights from research. Involving people living with HIV is very much a part of this. Read more...
