STOP AIDS NOW! Prevention project
Targeting youth through life skills
This development project focuses on targeting youth through Life Skill programmes. Even though the importance of a life skill component within HIV prevention programmes for young people is commonly accepted, a vast number of these programmes are not as broadly implemented and as effective as they could be. With this project we aim to contribute to increased quality and access to effective prevention programmes that include life skills for youth.

Upcoming products
The project ends mid 2011 and will result in concrete innovative tools such as:

  • A toolkit on how to measure sexuality education & life skill programmes on outcome level
  • Guidelines on how to address needs of HIV positive youth within your life skill programme
  • Four factsheets on volunteer management
  • Guidelines and best practices on integrating livelihood activities within your life skill programme
  • Best practices on M&E in relation to life skills programmes
  • Checklist for the effective implementation of life skill programmes

Learning by doing
Through its programmes, STOP AIDS NOW! has built expertise in generating knowledge through a learning by doing approach. The approach is based on Kolb's learning cycle.

Project management
Each country has an overall coordinator and three tracks. In those tracks partners work together on a specific issue related to life skill programmas, such as volunteer management. Each Track actively seeks collaboration with other expert organisations in the field.

Project location and time frame
The project has started in July 2008 and will run until December 2010. The project is being implemented in Zambia and another African country, yet to be selected.
