Country project information - India
In November 2005, STOP AIDS NOW! hosted the first workshop on managing HIV and AIDS in the workplace. The November meeting outlined the need for internal mainstreaming programmes for NGOs. During a second meeting, the design and structure for these programmes were determined and the STOP AIDS NOW! partners invited 45 counterparts to participate in the project. Most organisations agreed that HIV and AIDS need to be considered as NGO workplace issues.
The project is based on the following vision:
Establishing an enabling working environment that is responsive to the challenges of HIV and AIDS
The overarching aim of the project is:
“To strengthen the capacity of the participating organisations within a three-year period in order to develop and implement workplace policies related to HIV and AIDS and create an enabling environment to promote prevention and positive living for communities and staff.”
