The extent of the HIV/AIDS pandemic has forced the STOP AIDS NOW! partners and their counter parts to adjust their policies and practices. One of the key issues that needed rethinking is “Managing HIV and AIDS in the Workplace”. There has been a silence among counterparts and the partner organisations of STOP AIDS NOW! on how to deal with HIV and AIDS in the workplace. To change this the STOP AIDS NOW! started the development project "Managing HIV and AIDS in the Workplace".
The project approaches "Managing HIV and AIDS in the workplace" from two different perspectives, that of:
Local NGOs
Local NGOs experience huge emotional, technical and financial obstacles to implementing comprehensive HIV and AIDS policies. With this project, STOP AIDS NOW! aims to stimulate and support its local partners in the development and implementation of a comprehensive HIV and AIDS workplace policy. Three countries, Uganda, India and Ethiopia, have been selected.
Donors
Up to now, the STOP AIDS NOW! partners haven’t been sufficiently clear, transparent and consistent in supporting the HIV and AIDS workplace policies of their partners. If the donors are really concerned about the performance and effectiveness of their local partners, good donorship means facilitating and supporting the implementation of HIV and AIDS workplace policies. The concept of ‘Good donorship in a time of AIDS’ is therefore an important part of this development project.
