Country Project Malawi: local partner organisations

Introduction
Ecumenical Counselling Centre (ECC) is a Faith Based Organisation that was established in September 2005 by the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM, Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) and Malawi Council of Churches (MCC) together with the Logo ECCAssociation of Christian Educators in Malawi (ACEM) and Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM).

Vision
To improve lives of Malawians by empowering men and women leaders in Churches and communities with counselling skills.

Mission
To provide and strengthen the services of the Churches in Malawi by building the capacity of female and male Church leaders to provide adequate Counselling.

Values

  • All human beings, male and female, are created in the image of God and enjoy equality and dignity
  • Liberation of all human beings and restoration of their human dignity empowered by Christian faith values and the Word of God
  • Commitment to justice and peace and working for the rights of all especially the poor, women, the girl child, the oppressed and the suffering in the world
  • Mutual respect and affirmative cooperation and working for fellowship and unity of all in Christ


The Centre offers the following services:

  • Training in Counselling
  • Counselling Services
  • Voluntary Counselling and Testing
  • Supervision of Counsellors


Counselling services will be offered to:

  • Any person who shall request such services at the Centre or in the communities
  • Those that will be invited for training will be encouraged to undergo counselling


The Centre offers training and counselling in the following areas

  • Prevention of trafficking in women and children
  • HIV/AIDS Counselling ( including VCT)
  • Youth and HIV&AIDS Counselling
  • Children and HIV&AIDS Counselling
  • Marriage and HIV&AIDS Counselling
  • Alcohol and Substance Abuse and HIV&AIDS Counselling
  • Grief and Bereavement Counselling and HIV&AIDS Counselling
  • Crisis and HIV&AIDS Counselling
  • Gender Based Violence and HIV&AIDS Counselling
  • Women and HIV&AIDS Counselling


Fees, funding and donations
There is an annual membership fee and a prescribed registration fee per participant for each training course as well as fees for each counselling session.

The Centre appreciates support it gets from its partners. More grants and donations are welcome to support the operational costs, training programmes and counselling sessions.
